At last! They are back.... and they are BACK IN BLACK ICE!
Yes, AC/DC have finally released the follow up to STIFF UPPER LIP, which was released in 2000. So has the 8 year wait been worth it? Sure it has, after all we're talkin' AC fuckin' DC here!!
We get aboard the ROCK'N'ROLL TRAIN, the first track (train, track, geddit?), and within half a second of the first strum of guitar, you are already nodding your head to classic AC/DC. The drums and bass set the platform (another train joke, aarrgghh) as per usual with this great band, and you've got your ticket (last one, I promise) to AC/DC heaven!
BIG JACK is another real snorter, heavy and catchy, with that awesome drumbeat that adorns so many classic songs this band have delivered through their amazing career. Anywhere you look (listen?) on the album you get brilliance.... songs like ANYTHING GOES, ROCK'N'ROLL DREAM, etc, fuckin' awesome music!
As with all AC/DC albums, all the musicians perform to absolute perfection. But special praise this time goes to the voice of Mr Brian Johnson - the man sounds just incredible on BLACK ICE! There will have been thousands of albums released during the year of 2008, but there will not be a stronger vocal performance by any of those other singers than Johnson's showing here.
I could go on and on praising this band and BLACK ICE, but you get the idea.... even the artwork, etc, is absolutely spot on! You'd have to be quite a fussy person to find a fault connected to BLACK ICE...
BLACK ICE is just what you want from AC/DC. No change of direction or any of the bullshit which afflicts so many bands at certain stages of their careers. ANGUS and the boys just do their own thing, and why not? They like it, we like it.... what more could you possibly want?
BLACK ICE = THE greatest album of 2008!! Bow down to the mighty AC/DC!!!!!! |
