POWER & THE GLORY
Original Release: 1983
This album was the first ever official music cassette I owned. I cannot remember where I bought it, but I vividly remember being well impressed by the song NEVER SURRENDER (from SAXON's previous album, DENIM AND LEATHER) playing on Irish national radio, so POWER & THE GLORY was a must-have! At the time, I had an ancient old cassette player which, even when new, was not exactly leading technology. Didn't stop me enjoying this album, though!

POWER & THE GLORY had everything a then 14 year old Metal-head needed - songs like WARRIOR and MIDAS TOUCH were (and are!) heavy as fuck. Plus, the two-wheeled theme of REDLINE only served to fuel even more my lust to have a motorbike one day, while WATCHING THE SKY always got me thinking about what's really out there...

POWER & THE GLORY is one of those albums that never sounds dated. It is still in heavy rotation in the HYDRA household, and still arouses those same emotions even after all these years. A classic!

BTW - A year or so later, I bought the album on vinyl and the cassette got mislaid somewhere. Of course, I also bought it on CD years later... but I would love to find that old cassette again. I wonder could it still be laying somewhere around the Family home in NW Ireland...
